PROUD STOCKISTS OF THE MiYOSMART SPECTACLE LENS FOR CHILDREN

We are incredibly proud to be one of a select group of opticians, not only in the north-west but also in the UK, who provide the innovative MiYOSMART spectacle lens.

What is myopia?

Myopia, or short-sightedness as it is more commonly known, occurs when light rays focus in front of the retina (the thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye) instead of on the retina itself.

What are the benefits of the MiYOSMART lens?

  • The MiYOSMART lens with D.I.M.S Technology is designed to correct this refractive error, and provide clear vision and myopic defocus at all viewing distances. It is also designed to prevent your child from developing higher myopia, curbing progression by, on average, 60%.

  • We all know how active children can be! Using polycarbonate 1.59, the lens is highly impact-resistant and has even passed the high-velocity ball test! However, it remains light and thin and offers UV protection.

  • All-in-all, it is an effective, safe and easy way to manage childhood myopia.

How can we prevent myopia?

One of the most exciting areas of our industry centres on myopia management. With innovative and detailed research, we now understand more and more about what causes short-sightedness and how we can prevent, treat and sometimes even reverse it!

Genetics are thought to play a huge part in developing myopia. If one parent is myopic, then a child is 6x more likely to develop it and 8x more likely if both parents are myopic.

To prevent myopia, we recommend the following:

  • Spending a minimum of two hours outdoors, where the light is brighter and more varied, helps reduce peripheral defocus. You can also achieve higher vitamin D levels and increase physical activity!

  • Avoiding excessive amounts of screen time or near-work, and being mindful of poor lighting and posture.

  • Having regular eye examinations to ensure that myopia or other problems are detected and treated early. This is extremely important to reduce the worsening of vision, myopia progression and potential complications of high myopia.
